Danimer Scientific Uses Proprietary Processing to Produce Environmentally Responsible PHA

PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoates) are polyesters biosynthesized by a bacterium fed by inexpensive oils derived from the seeds of plants such as canola and soy.

The animation below illustrates how we make PHA at our new commercial manufacturing facility in Winchester, KY. As you can see, the process is 100% renewable and sustainable. There is no disputing the fact that PHA offers a better beginning-of-life and end-of-life scenario than any of today’s traditional single-use plastics.

Instead of the plastic litter now found on our land, beaches and waterways, we foresee a world in which the plastic products we use every day are made from the naturally occurring, sustainable PHA biopolymer we are creating.

PHA is…

  • Versatile, adaptable and heat- and UV-resistant
  • FDA approved for food contact
  • Capable of properties comparable to many petrochemical plastics
  • Custom formulated to create many types of plastic resins for different purposes
  • Able to withstand high temperatures while in storage
  • Able to preserve food and other stored goods better than many competitors
  • Capable of bonding successfully with materials, such as paper

Endless Uses

Nodax® is custom formulated to create different types of plastic resins for a wide variety of uses. We can even blend PHA with other types of biopolymers, like PLA, to expand its applications even further. You can learn more about the different applications for PHA here.
